The German counter-tenor, organist, choral conductor and music teacher, Christopher Zehrer, studied Church Music B (main subjects: organ/choir conducting) at the Hochschule für Katholische Kirchenmusik und Musikpädagogik in Regensburg, with Professor Franz Josef Stoiber and Karl Friedrich Wagner (Bachelor). He studied Church Music A (Master) and Conducting at the Staatlichen Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Stuttgart with Professor Jon Laukvik, Conducting (Master) with Professor Dieter Kurz, Organ/Improvisation with Professor Willibald Bezler. He studied singing as a counter-tenor at the Musikhochschule Regensburg with Thomas Diestler.
Frorm 2003 to 2008, Christopher Zehrer deputized for the cathedral organists at the Cathedrals of Passau and Regensburg. From 2005 to 2009, substitute organist at the Praemonstratenser Chorherrenstift Schlägl/Upper Austria. In 2005, he was first scholarship holder of the Stiftung “Eberhard Kraus“ Regensburg. From 2009 to 2017, he served as Stiftsorganist at the Stift Schlägl/Upper Austria. Since 2009 he is church musician together with his wife Karin Zehrer in Aigen im Mühlkreis.
In Winter semester 2015-2016 Christopher Zehrer became Acting professor for liturgical organ playing (Professor Franz Josef Stoiber) at the Hochschule für Katholische Kirchenmusik und Musikpädagogik Regensburg. From 2017 to 2019 he held teaching position at the Musikhochschule Regensburg für Orgel/ Literatur und Orgel/ Improvisation. From 2009 to February 2020, he was State music school teacher at the Landesmusikschule Schlägl for organ, piano and accompaniment. Since March 2020, he is lecturer for organ literature playing and organ improvisation at the Hochschule für Katholische Kirchenmusik und Musikpädagogik Regensburg.
Christopher Zehrer maintains regular concert and stage presence as a counter-tenor. He is a member of BachWerkVokal Salzburg (Director: Gordon Safari) and #Lauschwerk. He also has regular conducting activity with orchestras in German-speaking countries. He is director of Kantorei der Jugendkantorei Schlägl, Chairman of the Jugendkantorei Schlägl and voice trainer at one of the largest choir schools in German-speaking countries. |
