The German organist and composer, Maximilian Schnaus, began his musical education with organist Friedemann Haeßler and composer Stephan Adam. After churchmusic and organ studies in Hannover with Pier-Damiano Peretti and in Amsterdam with Jacques van Oortmerssen he went for further studies to the organ class of Leo van Doeselaar at the UDK Berlin where he graduated cum laude in February 2014.
The music of the 20th and 21st centuries is one of the main focuses of his repertoire. Maximilian Schnaus is recipient of scholarships from the Yehudi-Menuhin-Foundation and the Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes. Several of his works have been awarded international prizes and have been performed by renowned artists and ensembles. He received the Paul-Hindemith-Preis for composition from the Schleswig-Holstein-Musikfestival and the 1st Prize at the International Organ Competition Bern. In 2016 he became Artist in Residence of the Stiftung Kunst und Musik for Dresden. He is organist of the Sophienkirche in Berlin Mitte and lecturer at the Kirchenmusikalisches C-Seminar of the Universität der Künste Berlin. |
