Latest CD in Gardiner's BCP
John Pike wrote (October 10, 2005):
I listened to the latest CD in the Bach Cantata Pilgrimage this weekend. It is wonderful like all the others and includes one of the last concerts of the BCP, covering Christmas Day and the Second Day of Christmas. The concert was given in St Bartholomew's Church, New York on 25.12.00. The 3 concerts in New York on 25.12, 27.12 and 31.12 were the only concerts outside Europe and, in my opinion, the decision to end in New York, was another stroke of genius by Gardiner, perhaps as a symbol of the relevance of Bach's music for all people in all times. There is a very nice article at the end of the boklet by the bass peter Harvey about the last concerts in New York. the singing of the choir and soloists is tremendous, and the instrumental contribution is also excellent.
This is a single CD release, covering, with timings for Aryeh's benefit:
BWV 91, 16:02
BWV 121, 18:04
BWV 40, 14;32
BWV 110, 22:16
Total time 71:17
St Bartholomew's Church, New York on 25.12.00
Soloists Katharine Fuge soprano (91, 121), Joanne Lunn Soprano (110), Robin Tyson alto (91, 40), William Towers alto (121,110), James Gilchrist tenor, peter Harvey Bass.
