The Austrian baritone, Albert Hartinger, grew up in Salzburg, and studied at Volksschule Salzburg-Mülln, Hauptschule Salzburg-Maxglan, and Bundeslehrerbildungsanstalt Salzburg, matured in 1965. Beside the formal studies, he was a listener at that time at Akademie Mozarteum (clarinet with A. Heine). In 1965-1966 he had service duty at the Austrian Federal Army (military music). From 1966 to 1970 he studied Voice and Opera at the Universität Mozarteum (specialising in authentic interpretation of baroque music, music and education), and philosophy at the Universität Salzburg. Beside he studied privately opera singing with KS H. Pflanzl.
In 1970 Albert Hartinger won the Mozart Competition at the Mozarteum and was soloist in a concert of the Universität Mozarteum at the Mozartwoche. In 1970 he finished his studies of school music and singing (with honour). From 1970 to 1973 he was engaged at the Staatstheater Braunschweig. Besides he studied Education and Psychology at DO Braunschweig, and gained 1st Diploma in 1972. Afterwards he appeared in various operas and concerts.
From the winter semester of 1973 Albert Hartinger taught singing at the Universität Mozarteum. In 1974 he passed the exanination for teaching profession. Then he became teaching assistant at the Universität Salzburg, Institut für Pädagogik. In 1976 he Doctor for Education and Psychology. In 1983-1984 he was guest professor for singing at the Universität Mozarteum in the department for musician education in Innsbruck. In 1985 he was engaged as a teacher for singing, at the department for Musikpaedagogik Salzburg. In 1989 he was appointmented as the O.H. Professor for singing. From 1989 to 1993 he was director of the department for Musikpaedagogik Salzburg.
Apart from teaching, Albert Hartinger has had expanded concert activity. He has given concerts in Austria, Germany, and Italy, and participated in numerous TV and Radio recordings of oratorios, cantatas, and Lieder in Austria and Germany. He has appeared, among other things, at the Salzburg and Bregenz festivals, at the Verona Festival, at the Wiener Musikverein and Konzerthaus. He is a member of the Salzburger Barockensemble, founder and Art Director of the Salzburger Bach-Gesellschaft and director of Collegium Vocale Salzburg.
