The gifted English recorder player and conductor, David (John) Munrow, studied English at Pembroke College, Cambridge from 1961 to 1964. During this period, he founded an ensemble for the furtherance of early English music and organized a recorder consort.
In 1967 David Munrow formed the Early Music Consort of London, with which he gave many successful concerts of medieval and Renaissance music. He was also was active with his own BBC radio program. He lectured on the history of early music at the University of Leicester (from 1967) and was professor of recorder at London's Royal Academy of Music (from 1969).
David Munrow published the vol. Instruments of tbe Middle Ages and Renaissance (London, 1976). He killed himself for obscure reasons in his early maturity. |
