The Austrian conductor and baritone, Johannes Stecher, studied at the Salzburg Mozarteum in the Innsbruck-based Department of Music/Instrumental Music Education and Singing Education. He also studied the Organ at the Tyrol State Conservatory.
Johannes Stecher has been artistic director of the Wiltener Sängerknaben in Innsbruck since 1991 and Director of the Telfs and District Music School since 1992. In addition, he leads the Telfs Interregional Chamber Choir, the Academia Jacobus Stainer Tirol Baroque Orchestra and has, since 2000, been chairman of the Telfs Interregional Culture Initiative.
Johannes Stecher regularly conducts orchestral concerts and choir + orchestra concerts. His work is documented in over 25 CD recordings ranging from Haydn's Creation and the Mozart and Johannes Brahms Requiems to Orff's Carmina Burana, not to mention radio and TV recordings. He frequently guests as conductor of the Timisoara Philharmonic (Romania), founded the Academia Jacobus Stainer Baroque Orchestra and works with other ensembles and reputable soloists. He is involved not just as choirmaster (performance of great choral-orchestral works), but also as church musician (including organ concerts with the Tyrolean Symphony Orchestra, CD recordings) and as a consultant.
As a baritone Johannes Stecher is closely involved with song and oratorio. He has worked as a singing teacher for over 25 years, voice coaching girls, boys and young people. He has attended numerous courses and master-classes.
The first recording of Lieder by Johannes Brahms and Richard Strauss with Jan Aarsen, piano, and Johannes Stecher, baritone, appeared in November 2003 under the title of "Sommerfäden" (Sillton, 2003), the second in October 2004 (Sillton, 2004): "Fussreise" contains the Vier Ernsten Gesänge Op.121 by J. Brahms and 12 selected Lieder by Hugo Wolf with lyrics by E. Mörike. His Josephsmesse was premièred in 2008. |
