Franz Josef Breuer was a German composer and conductor. Member of RMK and DAF.
Franz Josef Breuer was a senior figure in German military music before 1945. His three greatest hits were recorded (twice) for Lindström's company, mainly by Luftwaffe bands: Immer, wenn Soldaten singen (composed by Franz Größmann and Franz Josef Breuer and written by Franz Josef Breuer in c1937; recorded for Lindström's Gloria label in 1939 by late Carl Woitschach's orchestra, conducted by his son, Paul; recorded for Lindström's Kristall label in 1939 by the band of Luftnachrichten-Abteilung des ObdL); Rosemarie (song of the 2nd battalion of infantry regiment 61; composed by Franz Größmann and Franz Josef Breuer and written by Wolfgang Wallstab in 1938; recorded for Lindström's Kristall label in 1939 by the band of Luftnachrichten-Abteilung des ObdL; recorded for Lindström's Odeon label in 1939 by the band of Fliegerhorst-Kommandantur Berlin-Staaken); Dorothee (composed by Franz Josef Breuer and written by Götz Otto Stoffregen in 1939; recorded for Lindström's Kristall label in 1939 by the band of Luftnachrichten-Regiment des ObdL; recorded for Lindström's Odeon label in 1939 by the band of Fliegerhorst-Kommandantur Berlin-Staaken). Breuer composed music for another Wallstab's song, Es steigt aus Nacht und Sorgen and another Stoffregen's, Wie müssen die Soldaten sein?. Last of his World War II songs Ursula, du bist das allerschönste Mädchen (author of music & lyrics) from 1939. Breuer also arranged marches and many marching songs, both old and new (such as Westerwaldlied, or Alpenjägerlied).
Franz Josef Breuer composed and arranged many songs and conducted bands, but was less visible than e.g. Herms Niel. During World War II he served in Wehrmacht, and was captured by the British, which explain his absence from musical life during the war. After World War II he was an influential figure in German light music. He conducted many recordings for companies like Polydor and Telefunken, composed music for various movies from 1948 to 1955 and as composer of marching music, he worked mostly with Käte Kongsbak-König. His name is very common as an arranger ("Bearb. Breuer").
Some of the songs he composed: Blühendes Feld, lachende Welt...
