Gerard Akkerhuis (Conductor, Organ)

Born: 1934 - Holland
Died: November 9, 1994

The Dutch conductor and organist, Gerard Akkerhuis, was appointed organist of the Nieuwe Kerk at the Spui in the Haque in 1959. Since 1962 he conducted cantata services at this church. In 1967 he was appointed chorus master and organist of the Kloosterkerk at the Lange Voorhout. From then on he conducted the cantatas at this church. As an organist Gerard Akkerhuis gave numerous concerts in the Netherlands and abroad. He was the conductor and musical director of the Residentie Bachkoor, the Residentie Kamerkoor and the Residentie Bachorkest. He toured Europe with his ensembles, particularly to perform all the major works of J.S.Bach, but also to conduct works by other composers from different style periods.
