Founded in the mid-1980s by Yves Corboz, musician and musicologist, the Capella concertata is a professional vocal and instrumental ensemble, with variable geometry depending on the requirements of the scores. Its singers and instrumentalists mostly come from circles close to “historically informed” musical interpretation, notably from the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis. They evolve as soloists as well as as ripienists, according to the principles specific to Baroque music and characteristics of the concertato style.
Born from the desire to bring the music of the 17th and 18th centuries to life in stylistic and sound universes close to those which may have existed at the time of their creation, the Capella Concertata first focused on the interpretation of the music of the Seicento, that of Claudio C. Monteverdi in particular.
Since 1992, Capella Concertata has become the privileged partner of the Concerts de la Semaine sainte de Fribourg, with leading instrumentalists, many times gathered around the violin of Chiara Banchini; and from 2006, she added vocalists to the dual role of soloist and singer.
Thus, the Capella Concertata was able to interpret the most beautiful pages of the repertoire such as the passions of J.S. Bach father & son, Carl Heinrich Graun, Georg Philipp Telemann, George Frideric Handel, Gottfried Heinrich Stölzel or Reinhard Keiser, but also repertoires freshly [ re]discovered like the Stabat Mater by E. d'Astorga, G. Bononcini, Antonio Caldara, G. Sellitto, T. Traetta or F. Tůma and rare works like Il Trionfo della Divina Giustizia by Nicola Porpora or the Brockes-Passion of G.H. Stölzel and R. Keiser.
From 2017, they inaugurated a new series of Concerts de la Toussaint, in homage to Master Luigi-Ferdinando Tagliavini who died the same year, to present a vast repertoire on the theme of the Requiem and penitential psalms: Requiem & Miserere by Antonio Lotti, Messa di Defonti by Mario M. Capuana, Messa per li Morti da capella & Letanie della Beatissima Vergine by Giuseppe G. Allevi, Requiem & Miserere by Giovanni G. Benedetto B. Platti. |
