Engelbrekts Kammarkör (Engelbrek's chamber) choir is a living and active part of Stockholm's music life. They are some 40 choristers who, under the direction of conductor Bengt Eklund, are united in the love of music and the desire to create artistic experiences at a high level. Their residence is the Engelbrektskyrkan in central Stockholm, a church with rich musical traditions that they proudly manage. An example of this is that the choir performs each Easter, along with orchestra and soloists, in front of J.S. Bach's Matthäus-Passion (BWV 244), an appreciated and well-known tradition in Stockholm, which was founded in 1923 by David Åhlén on the request of Archbishop Nathan Söderblom.
Engelbrekts Kammarkör often appears together with some of the country's best orchestras, such as Drottningholm Baroque Ensemble and the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra. The choir is award-winning in international driving competitions and is in demand for various collaborations in Stockholm's music life. Their repertoire is in the entire spectrum between older music from the Renaissance to newly written art music.
Engelbrekts Kammarkör was formed in its current form in 2010. |
