The Catalan choral director and pdagogue, Llorenç Gelabert Gual, has double degree in Early Childhood Education and Degree in Primary Education. In the field of musical direction, he trained with renowned figures such as Baltasar Bibiloni, Fernando Marina, Carles Ponseti, Lluís Vila, Xavier Sans, Rubén Jimeno and José Miguel Rodilla, among others.
Llorenç Gelabert exercises his teaching and research work in the area of Didactics of Musical Expression at the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB). He is a member of the Group for the Study of the History of Education (GEDHE), a competitive research group at the UIB. His doctoral thesis and other subsequent publications analyzed the currents of musical and pedagogical renewal that occurred in the Balearic Islands and in Catalan-speaking lands in the 1970's. He teaches subjects related to musical training and pedagogy: didactics, musical direction, history of music, auditory education and vocal technique; from an approach that combines autonomous learning with cooperative work techniques. In the framework of the studies of the Faculty of Education, she promoted the projects Música Viva and Nadales al Campus, both aimed at promoting musical experiences by students based on musical creativity and the practice of collective singing. His current lines of research cover the fields of the history of education, with special emphasis on music teaching institutions, and music pedagogy; publishing articles in scientific journals such as History of Education & Children's Literature (HECL), Revista Electrónica Complutense de Investigación en Educación Musical (RECIEM), Dedica, Revista de Educaçao y Humanidades, Historia de la Educación, Foro de Educación, Historia y Memoria de la Educación, El Futuro del Pasado, Educació i Història. Journal of the History of Education or Music and Education; and collaborating with specialized publishers such as Tirant lo Blanc or De Gruyter.
Llorenç Gelabert is the director and founder (2015) of Art Vocal Ensemble, a choral and instrumental group with which he carries out a regular season of concerts and dedicated to the dissemination and interpretation of new repertoires and initiatives in the pedagogical field. He was also co-founder of the chamber choir Acadèmia 1830, and previously directed the Collegium Vocale de les Illes Balears group, Cor Cantilena de Binissalem and Coral de Santa Maria del Camí, participating in numerous projects related to the choral world of Mallorca and Catalonia. He directed the Cor de Calvià for 14 years, a group closely linked to the world of lyrical music and with which he consolidated a comic opera festival, performing titles such as: Johann Strauss II's Die Fledermaus; W.A. Mozart's Cosi fan tutte; Arthur Sullivan's The Mikado and The Pirates of Penzanze; or, R. Martínez Valls' Cançó d'Amor i de Guerra, among others. |
