Boston Bach Ensemble (Choir & Period-Instrument Orchestra)

Founded: 1995 - Boston, Massachusetts, USA

The Boston Bach Ensemble (= BBE) is a twenty-voice professional choir with period-instrument orchestra which specializes in the music of Bach and his contemporaries. Founded in 1995 by music director, Julian J. Wachner, and artistic director, Peter Watchorn, the Boston Bach Ensemble has performed various chamber concerts and recitals which have included works such as the Missa in F Major, numerous cantatas, and a noted performance of the Weihnachts-Oratorium, BWV 248, in 1998. The performance of the Weihnachts-Oratorium was lauded for its "freshness" and "viewed from the top, it left one with a real sense of initiation ... its conclusion ... was part dramatic closure, part mythic reinforcement, part benediction and part spiritual commendation." The recording of the concert is currently under production for release as a commercial CD. The ensemble continues to garner critical acclaim, recently being hailed as "a major musical presence" and "a gust of clean, cool, mind-invigorating fresh air."
