The Dutch counter-tenor, David Cohen, graduated in 2009 from the Schumannacademie with the state exam in singing. He studied with
Carolyn Watkinson, Frans Huijts,
Pierre Mak and Brian Asawa. In addition, he participated in master-classes by Jill Feldman and Nicholas Clapton. Currently, he is coached by Maria Coolen and Gilbert den Broeder.
As a soloist David Cohen can regularly be heard in J.S. Bach's Passions (BWV 244,
BWV 245), Christmas Oratorio (BWV 248), Mass in B minor (BWV 232) and various cantatas; among others he has performed all solo alto cantatas in recent years. He also sang the alto solos in
George Frideric Handel's Messiah, Stabat Mater by
Giovanni Battista Pergolesi and Requiem by
W.A. Mozart. In later repertoire he also sang , among others in Petite Messe Solennelle by Rossini, soloed in Missa Brevis by
Leonard Bernstein and in songs by
Gabriel Fauré.
David Cohen has performed with conductors such as Boudewijn Jansen, Bas Ramselaar, Cor Brandenburg and
Arjan van Baest. He participated in a semi-scenic performance of Purcell's Fairy Queen under the direction of
Claron McFadden. In April 2017, he participated in the performance of
J.S. Bach's Matthäus-Passion (BWV 244) by the Nieuwe Philharmonie Utrecht under the direction of Johannes Leertouwer. In 2016, he was on the radio in the program 'Geen dag zonder Bach' (No day without Bach) by the Concertzender, in which he sang arias and duets by
J.S. Bach. |
