The English tenor, Robert Coupe, comes from Guernsey (Channel Islands), where he studied piano, organ and singings. Later he became the choral scholar of Trinity College, Cambridge, where he graduated in languages.
From 1977 to 2005, Robert Coupe was a member of the Nederlands Kamerkoor, and also performed extensively both as a soloist in oratorio concerts and Lieder recitals, as well as smaller ensembles, especially in the field of early music. For his interpretation of the Evangelist parts he received very favorable reviews. He participated in numerous radio, TV and CD recording, and worked with conductors such as Ton Koopman, Jos van Immerseel, Philippe Herreweghe and Reinbert de Leeuw.
As a freelance singer Robert Coupe is still active with such groups as the Nederlands Kamerkoor, Cappella Amsterdam (Director: Daniel Reuss) and the Egidius Quartet and College. He married the Dutch soprano Barbara Borden on May 3, 2005.
