Lorenzo de Cunzo (Baritone)

Born: Germany

Lorenzo de Cunzo is a lyrical baritone with German-Italian roots. He completed successfully his music education studies with a major in clarinet at the Hochschule für Musik Freiburg. He then studied in the class of Professor Hanno Müller-Brachmann and Professor Ingrid Haubold at the Hochschule für Musik Karlsruhe (since April 2016). In the summer of 2016, he was awarded a scholarship from the international music festival Porto Gruaro (Italy) for completing a master class with the Italian baritone Claudio Desderi. He received and continues to receive further important impulses through his collaboration with Professor Ingrid Haubold and Professor Konrad Jarnot. Since October 2016 he has been a scholarship holder of the Live Music Now Stiftung Oberrhein. In the same year he also received a scholarship from the Freundeskreises seiner Hochschule and the DAAD, as well as from the Brahmsgesellschaft Baden-Baden in February 2019.

Engagements have taken Lorenzo de Cunzo to the Rathausoper Konstanz, Theater im Marienbad and Stadttheater Freiburg, among others. In recent years, he has performed as Masetto in W.A. Mozart's Don Giovanni with the Lautten Compagney Berlin (Director: Wolfgang Katschner) at the Mozartfestspielen Würzburg, and as part of the Osterfestspiele as Hauptmann in K. Hartmann's Simplicius simplicissimus at the Theater Baden-Baden with the Akademie der Berliner Philharmoniker and in the contemporary opera Die neuen Todsünden at the Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe. With his Italian song recital “la dolce vita!?” he became a scholarship holder of the Riemschneider Stiftung. In the same year he won the 1st Prize for contemporary Lied in the Wettbewerb des Kulturfonds Baden, chaired by the composer W. Rihm. With his Lieder recitals, which are characterized by strong contrasts in the constant change between the “traditional” and contemporary repertoire, he regularly gives concerts nationwide and can be heard on SWR 2 radio broadcasts. Lorenzo de Cunzo can currently be heard in the production of Benjamin Britten's opera Death in Venice at the Theater Heidelberg (January 2024) and as June in A. Zemlinski's the opera Der Kreidekreis at the Staatstheater Karlsruhe (April 2024).

In addition to his concert activities, Lorenzo de Cunzo is also intensively dedicated to educational work. In the summer of 2018 he was invited to the University of Music in Havana (Cuba) to give a course in German song. In the same year he began teaching singing as a minor subject for wind instruments at the Musikhochschule Karlsruhe.
