Kathelijn van Dongen (Soporano)

Born: Oisterwijk, the Netherlands

The Dutch soprano, Kathelijn van Dongen, had obtained her Master in Law (2002), and worked as legal assistance lawyer at Interpolis (June 2002-January 2008), before graduating with Bachelor of Music degree (2008) and Master of Music degree in Solo Singing (2010) from the Fontys Hogeschool voor de Kunsten in Tilburg. Her teachers during and after her studies were Frans Fiselier, Maria Acda and Paula de Wit. Currently (2017), she is coached by Hanneke de Wit. She attended master-classes with Margreet Honig, Nelly Miriciou, Barbara Hannigan and Roberta Alexander.

Kathelijn van Dongen sang roles like Suzanne in Les Saltimbanques (Gannes), Belinda and Second Witch in Dido and Aeneas (Purcell), Monica in The Medium (Menotti) directed by Jeroen Lopez Cardozo, Blanche in Dialogues des Carmelites (Francis Poulenc) under the direction of Marc Krone and Euridice in Orfeo ed Euridice (Gluck).

Kathelijn van Dongen is a popular oratorio singer. WorkS on her repertoire are by Antonio Vivaldi (Gloria, Magnificat and Beatus Vir), George Frideric Handel (Dixit Dominus, Utrechter Te Deum), J.S. Bach (Johannes-Passion (BWV 245), Matthäus-Passion (BWV 244), Magnificat (BWV 243) and various cantatas), W.A. Mozart (Requiem, Kronungsmesse, Vesperae Confessore KV 339), Felix Mendelssohn (Psalm 42), Rossini (Petite Messe solennelle), John Rutter (Magnificat) and Haydn (Die Schöpfung). She has sung solos in these works with, among others, the Brabants Orkest, Nationaal Jeugdorkest, Florigium Collegium, and under conductors such as Reinhard Goebel, Reinbert de Leeuw, Florian Heyerick, Louis Buskens, Johan Rooze, Geert van den Dungen and Harold Lenselink. She has performed on various TV and radio recordings.

In addition to her solo performances, Kathelijn van Dongen has been working regularly since March 2008 as freelancer with the Groot Omroepkoor and also with Consensus Vocalis under the direction of Klaas Stok. With Consensus Vocalis she sang in April 2018 in the production of Der Fliegende Holländer by Wagner at the Nederlandse Reisopera. She was also a member of FBach Koor en Orkest (Director: Arjan van Baest).

Kathelijn van Dongen has taight singing at Muziekschool Aalst-Waalre and at Kunstbalie. Currently, she is teaching as a lecturer in major singing and singing technique at LokaalZes, her own singing school in Tilburg (since August 2012); as well as the main course in classical nusic theater at the Fontys Hogeschool voor de Kunsten (since January 2015).
