Sydney Fierro (Bass-Baritone)

Born: 1986 - Lausanne, Switzerland

The Swiss bass-baritone, Sydney Fierro, comes from a family of musicians. He began singing at the age of 9 in the Petits Chanteurs à la Croix de Bois, with which training, he quickly became a soloist and performed on many tours around the world. Shortly after he discovered the operatic repertoire with the baritone Robert Massard, who strongly encouraged him to follow a full course of musical studies. He entered the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique (CNSM) de Paris at age 17 and earned his degree with honors. He then perfected with Margreet Honig in Amsterdam, and now with Malcolm Walker in Paris.

Sydney Fierro made his debut in 2005 with Baroque opera in 2005 under the baton of William Christie as Zuliman in L'Europe Galante by Campra at Opéra Royal de Versailles and in Bilbao Opera, then as Coridon in Purcell's Fairy Queen at the Festival d'Aix-en-Provence. He has performed Rameau with La Simphonie du Marais directed by Hugo Reyne and with Emmanuelle Haïm and Le Concert d'Astrée. He has sung J.S. Bach under the direction of Kurt Masur, John Nelson, Benjamin Alard and Raphaël Pichon with whom he recorded the Missas Brevis for the Alpha label. He has collaborated with The English Concert under the direction of Olivier Schneebeli at the Chapelle Royale de Versailles in Bernier motets and with Vincent Dumestre and Poème Harmonique at the Cologne Philharmonic in a program of Leçon de Ténèbres.

His voice and temperament have naturally led Sydney Fierro to W.A. Mozart roles such as Figaro in Le Nozze di Figaro, Papageno in Die Zauberflöte or the Buff in Der Schauspieldirektor under the baton of Laurence Equilbey in a production of the Cité de la Musique.

Passionate about chamber music and Lied repertoire, Sydney Fierro works with harpists Izambert Clara, Chloe Ducray, with whom he founded the duo Les Muses Orion, and with the pianist Alphonse Cemain. In a more contemporary repertoire, he is a regular guest of Ensemble Le Balcon and its leader Maxime Pascal. He has recently become a member of Ensemble Les Vanités founded by the mezzo-soprano Pauline Sabatier.
