The German bass-baritone, Gereon Grundmann, studied singing at the Robert Schumann Hochschule Düsseldorf. He received his first musical training with the Essener Domsingknaben, of which he was a member for over ten years. Since the beginning of his studies he has been involved in numerous productions at the Robert Schumann Hochschule in cooperation with the Deutsche Oper am Rhein, such as W.A. Mozart's Die Zauberflöte (speaker), Gianni Schicchi (Betto di Signa), Rita (Gasparo), Le Comte Ory (Governor), Street Scenes (Frank Maurrant) and Die Fledermaus (prison director Frank).
In 2013, Gereon Grundmann sang at the Theater Krefeld und Mönchengladbach Dr. Cajus in Die lustigen Weiber von Windsor. In November 2014 he was heard in the role of Charlie Sharp in the concert premiere of The Amputation of Charlie Sharp (Hakenberg) at the “NOW” festival in the Kokerei Zollverein Essen. He has been a permanent member of the opera choir at the Theater Krefeld und Mönchengladbach since the 2016-2017 season. Solo roles at the community theater also included Assan in Gian Carlo Menotti's opera The Consul and Horatio in Hamlet by Ambroise Thomas. He was also seen in the Lohengrin parody The Magic Knight as Telramund. At the Schlossfestspielen in Zwingenberg in July 2017 he sang Dulcamara in Gaetano Donizetti's L'elisir d'amore, and in May 2018 he sang a young man in the opera Ariane by Bohuslav Martinu at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein. He is also a member of Chorus Musicus Köln (Director: Christoph Spering). He currently lives in Essen. |
