Robert Amis el Hage (Bass)

Born: Lebanon

The Lebanese bass, Robert Amis el Hage, who has made his home in Rome has been in constant demand through Italy both in the concert hall and the opera house ever since he was first discovered by Carlo Maria Giulini. He is already well known to British audiences, notably for his appearances last year at the Edinburgh festival, singing in J.S. Bach's B minor Mass (BWV 232), and at the Leeds festival where he was soloist in Rossini's Stabat Mater.

Internationally Robert Amis el Hage has made his name through recordings of Donizetti's Lucrezia Borgia with Montserrat Caballe conducted by Jonel Perlea (1966, RCA), and La Rondine with Anna Moffo. Among his other recordings: Live 1969 Berlioz' Les Troyens conducted by Georges Prêtre (Opera D'Oro); Live 1973 of Berlioz' Benvenuto Cellini conducted by Seiji Ozawa (Opera D'Oro); live 1970 Piccinni [sic] Didon.
