The English soprano, Andrea Haines (now Andrea Halsey), started singing at the age of 7 in her parish church choir at home in Kent and has since been a member of the Royal School of Church Music's Southern Cathedral Singers, Voces Roffenses, Counterpoint and the Serlo Consort, as well as directing her own chamber choir whilst at university in Cardiff. She commenced further studies at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis with Anthony Rooley and Evelyn Tubb in October 2009.
She now sings with the international award winning a cappella octet Voces8. With the octet Andrea performs over 100 concerts annually and 2009 will see her tour the USA, Kenya, the Canary Islands, Germany, France, Italy, Switzerland and Spain. As part of her role in the Voces8 she also enjoys leading workshops as part of the Hatch My Ideas! education initiative. She has also worked with Sing Up and Youth Music in this field.
As a soloist Andrea Haines' repertoire includes Edward Elgar's The Music Makers, William Walton's Three Sitwell Songs and A Song for the Lord Mayor's Table, George Frideric Handel's Messiah, Purcell's The Fairy Queen, J.S. Bach's Christmas Oratorio (BWV 248) and St John Passion (BWV 245), Karl Jenkin's The Armed Man and Malcolm Arnold's Song of Simeon. Later engagements have included G.F. Handel's Israel in Egypt at the St David's Festival. She now lives in London, England. |
