Alexander Hemmann (Tenor)

Born: Leipzig, Saxony, Germany

The German tenor, Alexander Hemmann, began his musical career at the age of six when he learned to play the violin. During his school days he was able to gain his first experience in ensemble singing as a tenor in the Chor der Rudolf-Hildebrand-Schule Markkleeberg, which he was able to deepen as a permanent member or temporary assistant in various ensembles while studying law and business law at Hochschule Wismar (Class of 2008). He also studied at Hochschule für Musik und Theater Leipzig. He has been taught by the Leipzig tenor Kammersänger Martin Petzold since 2009.

With the GewandhausChor (since 2009), Ensemble 1684 (since November 2014), Concerto Vocale Leipzig (as temporary help since 2009), Leipziger Cantorey (as temporary help since 2012), Leipziger Vocalensemble (as temporary help 2000-2002), Dresdner Kammerchor (Director: Hans-Christoph Rademann; as temporary help since 2017), Alexander Hemmann has had various opportunities in the past to participate in festivals, for example the MDR Musiksommer, Lucerne Festival, BBC Proms London, Mahler Festival in Leipzig and regularly at the Mendelssohn-Festtagen Leipzig since 2009 and regularly at the Bachfest Leipzig since 2002. Concert tours with the Ensemble 1684, GewandhausChor, Leipziger Vocalensemble, Synagogalchor Leipzig and Monteverdi-Chor Hamburg have taken him Estonia, South Africa, China, India, Italy, Austria, Guatemala, El Salvador, Nicaragua, France, Poland, Switzerland Slovakia and the USA.

The various choirs and ensembles gave Alexander Hemmann the opportunity to work with a large number of choir directors and conductors and to take up artistic impulses. Particularly noteworthy in this context are Gregor Meyer, Andris Nelsons, Andrés Orozco-Estrada, Riccardo Chailly, David Timm, Omer Meir Wellber, Alan Gilbert, Herbert Blomstedt, Gotthold Schwarz, Louis Langrée, Tobias Löbner, Kristjan Järvi, Dennis Russell Davies, Christopher Hogwood et al. He currently live in Leipzig, Saxony, Germany
