The Waldstadt Kammerorchester Karlsruhe was founded in 1971 by music-loving amateurs. Since 1979 the orchestra has been under the direction of Kapellmeister Norbert Krupp; The violinist Susanne Holder has been concert-master since 1995. A repertoire is developed in weekly rehearsals that includes works from the Baroque to modern.
Choir projects take place regularly with the Waldstadtkantorei, Grötzinger Pfarrei Heilig Kreuz, Ökumenischen Chor Grötzingen and the Evangelische Stadtkirche, Karlsruhe. When designing the program for the concerts, emphasis is placed on ensuring that relatively unknown pieces of music are also heard. World premieres of contemporary composers (such as works by Karlsruhe composers Andreas Grün, Helmut Bieler-Wendt, Felix Treiber and Christian Eberle) made the Waldstadt Kammerorchester known beyond Karlsruhe. Also excavations of old works, such as pieces by the Karlsruhe Court Kapellmeister Johann Melchior Molter, were presented by the orchestra for the first time.
Radio recordings and three CD's document the work of the orchestra, which can look back on extensive concert tours: The first trip took place in 1986 at the invitation of the Humboldt-Gesellschaft to Ecuador. This was followed by trips to the USA (1990), Norway (1992), northern Spain (1998, 2004, 2009), northern Italy (2004, 2016), Russia (2007), southern France (2008, 2009), Rome (2010), Paris (2012, 2018), Sicily (2012). Between these large-scale tours, whole series of further concert tours, such as to Berlin, Paris, Rome and Karlsruhe's twin cities Halle (Saale), Nancy and Krasnodar (Russia). |
