The German-born lyric soprano, Kathrin Lorenzen, began her music studies in Leipzig (inspired by so many great musicians who have been there), at first church music and soon in addition voice/opera. She loved to play organ and to sing, but she did not like the opera part so much. She somehow always knew that she wanted to be in choirs and churches, not on a theater stage, so she finished her Bachelor degree in Saarbrücken (2021) with Professor Ruth Ziesak. With, for example, the German National Youth Choir (Director: Florian Benfer), World Youth Choir and Kammerchor Stuttgart (Director: Frieder Bernius) she got to experience concert tours all around the earth and developed a taste for the fine balance between singing demanding choral work and stepping out of the group solistically. Yes, she never expected it, but solo singing grew on her and she got to contribute to a lot of the great sacred works as Soprano soloist already, including J.S. Bach. And even opera: in 2019: she was Pamina in W.A. Mozart's Die Zauberflöte and 2021 Donna Silvia in Korngold's Die stumme Serenade (co-operation with Saarländisches Staatstheater).
But choir and ensemble singing will always be Kathrin Lorenzen's main passion. She joined into the Sveriges Radiokören, one of the best known choirs in the world. She is also active as a freelance singer and organist, based in Stockholm, Sweden. In August 2022 she will start her Master studies at Kungliga Musikhögskolan. |
