The German counter-tenor, Matthias Lucht, first studied Viola at the University of Music in Mannheim. After a while he started his singing studies with Gerd Türk. A scholarschip of the DAAD (German Akademic Exchange Service) enabeled him to continiu his studies at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam with Howard Crook and Udo Reinemann. At the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis he settled his knowlege in early music with Andreas Scholl.
Matthias Lucht is now a well known soloist and ensemble singer. Apart of his work in germans most reputated early music ensembles, like the Balthasar-Neumann-Chor (Director: Thomas Hengelbrock), Musica Fiata, Cantus Cölln, Capella Angelica and the RIAS-Kammerchor (Director: Hans-Christoph Rademann), he is regulary on stage as solist with varius reputated conductors. He sang under Thomas Hengelbrock, Andrea Marcon, René Jacobs, Ivor Bolton, Wolfgang Katschner, Alessandro de Marchi, Jos van Veldhoven, Thomas Fey, Konrad Junghänel, Gottfried von der Goltz and Helmuth Rilling. He was accompanied by the Balthasar-Neumann-Ensemble, Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin, Lautten Compagney Berlin, La Cetra Barockorchester Basel, Barockorchester L'arpa festante, Heidelberger Sinfoniker and others. He was guest at the Innsbrucker Festwochen, Bachfest Leipzig, Händelfestspiele Halle, Salzburger Pfingstfestspiele, Pelerinages Weimar, Heidelberger Frühling, Festspielhaus Baden-Baden and the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. Broadcasting-, CD-, and TV- productions are part of his work. Of special emphasis are a TV broadcast of J.S. Bach's B-minor Mass (BWV 232) from the Festspielhaus Baden-Baden under Thomas Hengelbrock and his solo recording "Die Welt ist toll" with German renaissance songs, wich was highly recommended by several german Radio stations.
Matthias Lucht appears also on the opera stage. After his debut with René Jacobs at the Innsbrucker Festwochen, he was guest at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden in Berlin, the Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe, the Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz in München, the Musiktheater im Revier Gelsenkirchen, the theaters in Passau, Landshut, Solothurn and Biel. There he performed successfull the roles of Tolomeo in George Frideric Handel's: Giulio Cesare, Disinganno in G.F. Handel's Il trionfo del tempo e del disinganno, Eustazio in G.F. Handel's: Rinaldo, Pastore/Speranza in Monteverdi's: Orfeo, Ottone in Monteverdi's: L'incoronatione di Poppea, Acheloo in A. Steffani's: La Lotta d`Alcide con Acheloo and Apollo in Benjamin Britten's Death in Venice.
