The American choral conductor, Paul McGovern, studied at Holy Cross High School in Flushing, New York (Class of 1979). He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Music from Queens College, City University of New York (CUNY) (1983) and his Master of Music degree in Choral Conducting and Doctor of Music degree in Choral Conducting (2005) )from Indiana University in Bloomington.
Before graduate school, Paul McGovern taught music in the public schools in the greater Philadelphia, PA area for six years. He has over 20 years teaching experience, both in K-12 schools and at the college level. Throughout his career, he has conducted school and community choral ensembles of all types and ages. Currently he serves as chorus master for PORTopera and as conductor of the Southern Maine Children's Choir at USM. Previously, he has served as music director and conductor of the UMF Community Chorus and the Granite State Choral Society. Paul continues to sing with the Choral Art Societys chamber choir, Camerata. He prepared the Festival Chorus for the 2013 White Mountain Musical Arts: Bach Festival.
Currently Paul McGovern teaches music at Portland High School. He has taught music and directed choirs at Cape Elizabeth High School, Saint Josephs College, SUNY-Potsdam, and Georgia Southern University. Since August 2015, he is also Computer Technician at Portland, ME Public Schools. He married Sally Enoch on August 6, 1988 and currently lives in Windham, Maine.
