Shirley Minty (Mezzo-soprano, Contralto)

Born: England

The English mezzo-soprano/contralto, Shirley Minty, has sung with Choral Societies throughout the British Isles. A frequent broadcaster both as recitalist and soloist with leading orchestras. her B.B.C. engagements have included concerts conducted by Sir Malcolm Sargent and Antal Doráti. She has appeared in concerts at the Lisbon Festival, in Rome and at the Promenade Concerts. She performed at the Proms in London from 1964 to 1974.

In addition to J.S. Bach (see below), Shirley Minty's recordings include: Highlights From Edward German's Tom Jones (Odeon/World Record Club, 1967); Highlights From The Arcadians (Music For Pleasure, 1969); Giacomo Meyerber: Le Prophète, conducted by Henry Lewis (Sony, 1976); Giacomo Puccini: Suor Angelika, conducted by Lorin Maazel (Sony, 1976); Alessandro Scarlatti: Vespers of Saint Cecilia (Nonesuch, 1981); Joseph Haydn: Mariazellermesse, conducted by Neville Marriner (Argo, 1986); Joseph Haydn: Nikolaimesse, conducted by Simon Preston (L'Oiseau-Lyre); and many more.
