Born: Utrecht, the Netherlands

The distinguished soprano Erna Spoorenberg was his opera and oratorio repertoire coach for many years.

He often gives song recitals in which Jacomijn Puite, Noël Lee and Paul van der Woude are the regular pianists. He specialises in the romantic and late romantic repertoire of Schubert, Robert Schumann, J. Brahms, Strauss and Gustav Mahler as well as French and English speaking repertoire of G. Fauré, Hahn, Francis Poulenc, Ralph Vaughan Williams, Benjamin Britten, Finzi and Butterworth.

He has also appeared in the operettas Boccaccio, La belle Hélène and the children's opera Cinderella by Kerry Woodward.

Evert Jan Nagtegaal has produced several CD's together with the pianist Noël Lee a.o. with the alto Annelies Lamm in which they perform pieces by R. Schumann, J. Brahms and their Dutch contemporary Gerrit Jan van Eijken.
