Hans-Hermann Nissen (Bass-Baritone)

Born: May 20, 1893 - Zippnow, near Marienwerder, West Prussia
Died: March 28, 1980 - Munich, Bavaria, Germany

The distinguished German bass-baritone, Hans Hermann Nissen, studied with Julius von Raatz-Brickmann in Berlin.

After his concert debut in 1920 in Berlin, Hans Hermann Nissen made his operatic debut as the Caliph in Der Barbier von Bagdad at the Berlin Volksoper in 1924. Ssubsequently he joined the Bavarian State Opera in Munich in 1925. In 1930 he went to the USA, where he was a member of the Chicago Civic Opera until 1932. In November 1938, he made his debut with the Metropolitan Opera in New York as Wotan and remained with it for a season. He then rejoined the Bavarian State Opera in Munich.

After his retirement in 1967, Hans Hermann Nissen remained in Munich as a voice teacher.
