Rudolf Preckwinkel (Bass, Double-bass)

Born: Germany

The German bass singer and double-bass player, Rudolf (Rudi) Preckwinkel, studied at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hannover (1981-1990): double-bass with Rudolf Schlegel and Hans-Günther Heinrichs and singing with William Reimer. He furthered his vocal training by music studies with Karl-Heinz Jarius (Frankfurt) and Peter Iljunas (Berlin). Master-classes with Christoph Prégardien and the Hilliard Ensemble completed his studies.

Since his university studies, Rudolf Preckwinkel has sung as a soloist mainly in church concerts and often solo roles in concerts and CD productions of renowned ensembles such as the RIAS-Kammerchor, Freiburger Barockorchester and Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin. He was also a member of the Kammerchor Stuttgart (Director: Frieder Bernius). With the Freiburger Barockorchester under the direction of Thomas Hengelbrock he sang the words of Jesus at the Festival Wratislavia Cantans in a performance of Johannes-Passion (BWV 245) by J.S. Bach. He was heard as a bass soloist also in other international concerts of this orchestra (for example, King Arthur by Henry Purcell in Freiburg, Prague, Copenhagen and Paris). In November 2012, he sang the bass part of the oratorio Paulus by Felix Mendelssohn together with the Brandenburger Symphoniker in Quakenbrück, Lower Saxony. The CD recording with Motets and Psalms by Felix Mendelssohn, in which he sang the bass voice in various soloistic formations of the RIAS-Kammerchor (Director: Marcus Creed), was awarded the Edison Award.

As a double-bass player, Rudolf Preckwinkel joined a while ago the RIAS-Kammerchor, including in projects of the James Last Orchestra (European tour and film music productions). Even now, he occasionally plays in various orchestras as well as chamber music ensembles.
