The German baritone and Kammersänger, Peter-Christoph Runge, received the first musical training still during the school time as choir singer and soloist in the Lübecker Knabenkantorei. He completed successfully his studies at the Hochschule für Musik Hamburg.
Peter-Christoph Runge made his debut in 1958 in Flensburg as Guglielmo in Così fan tutte. From 1959 to 1964 he was engaged at Wuppertal Opera. In 1964 he joined the Deutsche Oper am Rhein in Düsseldorf. In this time his international career in concert and opera also began. His appearances led him to international festivals such as Glyndebourne (debut in 1966 as Papageno in Die Zauberflöte), Salzburg, Edinburgh, Berlin Weeks, Holland Festival, etc. He has also sang at the big opera houses: Wiener Staatsoper, Staatsoper München, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Staatsoper unter den Linden, Hamburg, Moscow’s Bolshoi-Theater, Buenos Aires, Parma, Verona, Florence. He is desired as well in radio and television productions. His appearances have brought him to Vienna, Milan, Rome, Paris, London, Stockholm, Copenhagen, Brussels, Hamburg, Munich, Cologne, Berlin, and Dresden. He sang Stolzius in the British première of Die Soldaten, at the Edinburgh Festival in 1972, and in concert version in Salzburg in 1974. His Wexford début was in 1984 as Romualdo in Cimarosa's Le astuzie femminili).
His recordings and Lieder programmes cover the whole span from the Modern to the Renaissance. Peter-Christoph Runge is member of the Deutsche Oper am Rhein and Professor at the Staatlichen Hochschule für Musik in Düsseldorf. |
