Telemann-Kammerorchester Michaelstein (Chamber Orchestra)

Founded: 1952 - Michaelstein, Germany

The Telemann-Kammerorchester (= TKO) was founded in 1952 by the conductor Dr. Eitelfriedrich Thom and developed under its artistic leading to a popular and in demand ensemble of the music in Sachsen-Anhalt. Numerous broadcast, CD, DVD and TV recordings document this development. Together with renowned artists, the small orchestra has already appeared all over Germany as well as in many European countries. The task of the performing according to contemporary demands of performance practice, particularly the music 17th and 18th centuries, resulted from the connection of the orchestra with the Institut für Aufführungspraxis Kloster Michaelstein. The TKO's concert programmes include not only music of the Baroque era, but also works of the classical and later periods. Thereby both the historical and the modern instruments are used. The concert activity on historical instruments is effected in close co-operation with internationally-famed Dr. Ernst Kubitschek and Marianne Ronez-Kubitschek Innsbruck. The ensemble varies, depending upon requirement of the works, from chamber size to full orchestra. The great tradition of the orchestra and its founder continued when the internationally demanded artist Professor Dr. Bert Greiner (Berlin) took over the artistic direction of the TKO. As music ambassadors of Sachsen-Anhalt, the TKO looks forward to a music-inspired public.
