Frederick Urrey (Tenor)

Born: USA

The American tenor Frederick Urrey is an internationally recognized artist who appears in oratorio, opera, and recital throughout the USA, Europe, and Asia, receiving praise for his performance of a wide range of styles from diverse musical periods. He is an active performer of the works of J.S. Bach, and appears with the Bach Choir of Bethlehem, Washington Bach Consort, Carmel Bach Festival, Baldwin-Wallace Bach Festival, Marlboro Music Festival, Les Violons du Roy of Quebec, and the Bach Societies of Vienna, Vancouver, Orleans, Louisville Bach Society, and Bach Festival of Kalamazoo.

Highlights of recent seasons include George Frideric Handel's Messiah with the Philadelphia Orchestra, Boston's Handel and Haydn Society at Boston's Symphony Hall, and with Musica Sacra in Carnegie Hall, the Mozart/G.F. Handel Messiah with the National Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Christopher Hogwood at the Kennedy Center, G.F. Handel's L'Allegro at Théatre Royal de la Monnaie in Brussels, Rossini's Stabat Mater in Manila, Mozart Die Entfübrung aus dem Serail in Istanbul, J.S. Bach's St. Matthews Passion (BWV 244) with the Japan Shinsei Symphony in Tokyo, J.S. Bach's Magnificat (BWV 243) with the Bach Choir of London and David Willcocks at Lincoln Center, and J.S. Bach's Mass in B minor (BWV 232) with The Bach Choir of Bethlehem at the Bethlehem Bach Festival and the Thomaskirche in Leipzig.

Frederick Urrey has recorded a CD of English lute songs entitled 'O Mistress Mine' with lutenist Ronn McFarlane, and he can also be heard on the Bach Choir of Bethlehem's 1998 release of the Mass of B Minor - both recordings for the Dorian. He has also recorded for RCA/BMG, Harmonia Mundi, Telefunken-Decca, Newport Classic, Vox Classic, Koch International, and Albany labels.
