Linard Vrielink (Tenor)

Born: The Netherlands

The Dutch tenor, Linard Vrielink, holds a Bachelor’s degree from the Universität der Künste (UdK) in Berlin, where he studied with Prof Elisabeth Werres.

Whilst at the UdK, he made his debut at Staatsoper Berlin as Scaramuccio in Ariadne auf Naxos, appeared as Federico in Stiffelio at the Konzerthaus Berlin and as Oronte in George Frideric Handel's Alcina at Kammeroper Rheinsberg, sang the European premiere of Mohammed Fairouz' oratorio Zabur with the Bochumer Symphoniker, joined Ensemble Pygmalion and Raphaël Pichon for a W.A. Mozart programme and performed Schubert's Stabat Mater and L.v. Beethoven's C-major Mass with Thomas Hengelbrock and the Balthasar-Neumann Ensembles in Spain.

Between 2017 and 2020 Linard Vrielink was a member of the Opernstudio at the Staatsoper Berlin, where his roles included Junker Spärlich in Die Lustigen Weiber von Windsor, conducted by Daniel Barenboim, Don Basilio in W.A. Mozart's Le Nozze di Figaro under Marc Minkowski, Seemann/Hirte in a new production of Tristan und Isolde, conducted by Daniel Barenboim, Scaramuccio, 3. Jude in Salome, 4. Knappe in Parsifal, 1. Priester in W.A. Mozart's Die Zauberflöte, 1.Soldat and Konsul in a new production of L’incoronazione di Poppea.

Elsewhere, Linard Vrielink has appeared as Almaviva in Il barbiere di Siviglia at the Bregenzer Festspiele, Don Basilio at Staatsoper Hamburg and, most recently, gave his debut at the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence as Hirt/Seemann in a new production of Tristan und Isolde, conducted by Sir Simon Rattle.

Concert engagements include Schubert’s Mass in A flat with Chœur de Chambre Accentus at Opéra de Rouen, Camille Saint-SaënsOratorio de Noël with Thomas Hengelbrock and the Balthasar-Neumann Ensembles on European tour as well as with the Nederlands Radio Filharmonisch Orkest, conducted by Ed Spanjaard, J.S. Bach's Messe in h-moll (BWV 232) with Ivor Bolton and the Balthasar-Neumann Ensembles, Orff’s Carmina Burana at Konzerthaus Berlin, Rossini’s Stabat Mater at the Kasseler Musiktage and J.S. Bach's Matthäus Passion (BWV 244) with the Noord Nederlands Orkest/Residentie Orkest Den Haag under Peter Dijkstra. He has recorded works by W.A. Mozart with Ensemble Pygmalion and Raphaël Pichon, released in 2019 by Harmonia Mundi under the title ‘Libertà!’.

In 2021-2022 season, Linard Vrielink gave his house and role debut as Jaquino in L.v. Beethoven's Fidelio at Opéra Comique in Paris, conducted by Raphaël Pichon, and returned to Staatsoper Berlin for the male lead role of Asle in the world premiere of Péter Eötvös' new opera Sleepless (June 2022), also shown at the Grand Théâtre de Geneve and MUPA in Budapest, and returned to Staatsoper Berlin for his role debut as Fenton in Die Lustige Weiber von Windsor.

In 2022-2023 season, Linard Vrielink gave his house and role debut as Tamino in W.A. Mozart's Die Zauberflöte at Bergen National Opera (November 2022), performed the role of Federico in Mascagni’s L’Amico Fritz with the Nederlands Radio Filharmonisch Orkest and Andrea Battistoni (December 2022) and returned to Staatsoper Berlin as Arbace in W.A. Mozart's Idomeneo, conducted by Sir Simon Rattle (March 2023), Asle in Sleepless (March 2023) and for his role debut as Leukippos in a new production by Romeo Castellucci of Strauss’ Daphne (March 2023). Furthermore he performed W.A. Mozart's Krönungsmesse with Berliner Philharmoniker and Kirill Petrenko in Berlin (April 2023), Barcelona and Madrid. Linard Vrielink concluded the season with his BBC PROMS debut in Robert Schumann's Das Paradies und die Peri with Sir Simon Rattle and the London Symphony Orchestra (August 2023).

In concert, he performs Robert Schumann’s Das Paradies und die Peri with the Staatskapelle Berlin and Sir Simon Rattle (August 2022), L.v. Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 with the orchestra of Theater Kassel and for Dutch Television, works by Haydn and Arthur Honegger as well as the role of Désiré in Giordano’s Fedora, both with the Nederlands Radio Filharmonisch Orkest. He will return to the Festival d'Aix-en-Provence at the end of the season in a new opera production, this time as Arbace from W.A. Mozart's Idomeneo, conducted by and Raphaël Pichon.
