August Sigismund Cnobloch (Pastor, Bach's Pupil)

Born: October 19, 1730 - Liebenwerda, Brandenburg, Germany
Died: February 9, 1784 - Freyburg, Saxony-Anhalt, Germany

August Sigismund Cnobloch was born the son of Martin Cnobloch (Superintendent in Liebenwerda). He enrolled at the Thomasschule in Leipzig on July 15, 1741; studied there from 1741 to 1748; and at Universität Leipzig from 1748, obtaining his Baccalaureus and Magister degrees in 1752. Although he attended the Thomasschule during J.S. Bach's tenure, it is not known if he actually studied with him. After his studies, he worked as afternoon preacher from 1753 and Catechist from 1757 at the Paulinerkirche in Leipzig; Senior Pastor in Teuchern from 1757; Superintendent in Freyburg from 1767. He published Historische Inaugural-Dissertation. De Theodorico iuniore sive Ticemanno Landgravio Thuringiae orientalis et Lusatiae Marchione. (Über Theodor, den Jüngeren, oder Tiezmann, Landgraf von Ostthüringen und der Lausitz/Brandenburg) (Leipzig, Breitkopf, 1751)
