Ahmet Süleyman Bilgin (Conductor)

Born: 1982 - İzmir, Turkey

The Turkish conductor and composer, Ahmet Süleyman Bilgin, began his musical studies in classical guitar and music theory with Mehmet Gürgün in 1999. From 2002 onward, he continued his training at the Abant Izzet Baysal University in Bolu, Turkey, where he earned a Bachelor's and a Master's degree in Music Pedagogy, graduating with honors. He was introduced to choral conducting and pedagogy by Muhip Şanal in 2005 and pursued further studies with Markus Baisch in 2008. Between 2006 and 2012 he has composed music for several audiovisual projects. In 2008, he founded the children's choir Kipirdayan Notalar in Istanbul, Turkey, which he directed until 2011. He took part in several master-classes in choral pedagogy with Hans-Joachim Lustig, Bernardo Donati, Soma Szabo, and Elisenda Carrasco (2010). He has expanded his orchestration studies with Ertuğrul Sevsay.

In 2012, Ahmet Süleyman Bilgin moved to Barcelona, where he began conducting the Choir of the Faculty of Pharmacy at the University of Barcelona (Cor de la Facultat de Farmàcia de la Universitat de Barcelona). In the following years, he furthered his training in choral conducting through courses with renowned conductors such as Xavier Puig, Xavier Sans, and Pere Luis Biosca, among others. In 2015, he took over the direction of the Cor Trobada, a role he held until 2018 when he founded the Salvat Ensemble chamber orchestra.

Since Ahmet Süleyman Bilgin arrived in Barcelona, and together with conductor Poire Vallve, he has annually organized inter-university musical projects involving various choirs and orchestras from across Catalonia. Through these projects, he has had the opportunity to conduct choirs such as the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB) Choir, and the Rovira i Virgili University (URV) Choir, among others. He has also conducted nationally recognized orchestras such as the Orquestra Camera Musicae, the Youth Orchestra of Cerdanyola, and the university orchestras of the UAB and URV. In parallel, he maintains an active career as a creator and composer, having contributed to various projects including choral and orchestral works, theatrical productions, advertisements, and audiovisual pieces.

Ahmet Süleyman Bilgin currently continues to conduct both the Cor de la Facultat de Farmàcia de la Universitat de Barcelona and the Salvat Ensemble, and also serves as president of the Artinity Cultural Association, whose mission is to promote culture and organize events of social and cultural interest.
