Salvat Ensemble (Orchestra)

Founded: May 2018 - Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain

The Salvat Ensemble orchestra was founded in May 2018 at the behest of its current director, Ahmet Süleyman Bilgin, and the president of the Cor de la Facultat de Farmàcia (UB), Pere Gomis. Although it was born with the idea of providing a stable, high-standard orchestra to accompany the choir in pieces that required it, the Salvat Ensemble extended its vision and began to develop its own artistic programme. All the members that make up the Salvat Ensemble are professional musicians with a long career in chamber music groups and orchestras, both in Spain and internationally. Thanks to careful training, the Salvat Ensemble stands out for its mature level of performance.

Despite the orchestra’s short trajectory, it has performed a vast repertoire ranging from the Baroque to the Romantic, playing both orchestral and orchestral-choral pieces, including pieces with instrumental or vocal soloists. It has performed world-renowned compositions such as Antonio Vivaldi's Four Seasons, Purcell’s Baroque opera Dido & Aeneas and W.A. Mozart's Requiem, among many others.

One of its most outstanding performances was that of October a5, 2019 in Santa Maria Reina de Pedralbes (Barcelona), where it performed, together with a programme of selected compositions, W.A. Mozart's Requiem, as part of a concert in tribute to Elvira María Teresa Musso, who passed away on March 8, 2019 of that same year following her extensive career as president of the SALVAT pharmaceutical company.

The Salvat Ensemble works and offers its music with the aim of granting a new interpretation of the orchestral repertoire, with a clear commitment to the authenticity of their performance according to historical criteria and a firm will to bring the beauty of classical music closer to the public.
