Daniele Bononcini (Choral Conductor, Organ)

Born: March 23, 1973 - Modena, Emilia-Romagna, Italy

The Italian choral conductor, organist, composer and music teacher, Daniele Bononcini, has a degree in Piano, Choral Music and Choir Conducting, Organ and Organ Composition; he studied composition. He studied Gregorian chant in depth with Fulvio Rampi, Alberto Turco, Giovanni Conti, Franz Prässl, Giacomo Baroffio.

Since 1996 Daniele Bononcini has been the titular organist of the Duomo di Modena and since 2001 director of the Cappella Musicale della Cattedrale, positions he held until October 2022, when he was appointed Artistic Director of Modena Musica Sacra APS.

Within the Cappella Musicale del Duomo, Daniele Bononcini created the following choral groups: Pueri Cantores (for children and young people in elementary and middle schools), Juvenes Cantores (children and young people in high schools and universities), Schola Polifonica (adults specialized in the polyphonic repertoire) and Schola Gregoriana (young people and adults specialized in the Gregorian repertoire and who sing every Sunday in the Duomo di Modena using the Graduale Triplex), establishing a rich concert season specific to the Cattedrale.

Both in concert and in liturgy Daniele Bononcini has performed all the most significant works for choir and orchestra by the great authors of sacred music: he has conducted J.S. Bach's Matthäus-Passion BWV 244, Johannes-Passion BWV 245, Magnificat in D major BWV 243 and Mass in B minor BWV 232; W.A. Mozart's Exsultate Jubilate, Vesperae Solemnes de Confessore, numerous Masses, including the Requiem and the Krünungsmesse; Antonio Vivaldi's Gloria, Magnificat, Credo, Nisi Dominus; F. Schubert's Masses in C and G, Magnificat, Stabat Mater; Camille Saint-Saëns' Christmas Oratorio; Gabriel Fauré's Requiem in D minor; Maurice Duruflé's Requiem and the Mass “Cum Iubilo”; he also conducted Il Natale del Redentore and La Risurrezione di Cristo by L. Perosi, the latter in a grand staging with 350 choristers and 60 orchestral musicians.

As an organist Daniele Bononcini was invited to inaugurate important restorations of instruments and he performed the complete organ works of various composers: he performed several times the complete cycle of the complete works of Girolamo Frescobaldi, George Frideric Handel, J.S. Bach, Dietrich Buxtehude, W.A. Mozart, Felix Mendelssohn, Johannes Brahms, Franz Liszt, César Franck, A. Guilmant, etc...

He has recorded several CD's of organ music, Gregorian chant and polyphony, including W.A. Mozart's Requiem and Vesperae Solemnes de Confessore, J.S. Bach's Johannes-Passion BWV 245. In 2008 he published the world premiere of the first CD on the sacred production of the famous Renaissance composer Orazio Vecchi for the Tactus label and in 2015 he composed and conducted the music for a CD published by San Paolo Edizioni and combined with the magazine Famiglia Cristiana on the occasion of the Jubilee of Mercy.

Bononcini also carries out a rich activity as a composer. He is currently a teacher of organ and choir direction at the Scuola di Modena Musica Sacra and a teacher of piano, piano practice, choral practice and score reading at the Conservatorio Vecchi-Tonelli di Modena e Carpi.
