The vocal ensemble Flos Musicae is entirely composed of professional musicians under 30. Founded in Bologna in June 2018, the group aims to disseminate the rich European vocal repertoire, with particular attention to “historically informed” performance practice. Its research ranges from early to contemporary music, from Gregorian chant to contemporary music. However, the group's predilection and area of specialization are the ancient and classical-romantic repertoire.
In February 2020, the ensemble was invited to hold a charity concert for the Italian Red Cross at Palazzo Fava da S. Domenico in Bologna: for the occasion, the rare collection of madrigals Barca di Venetia per Padova by A. Banchieri was performed in its entirety - with the accompaniment of early instruments. The concert was repeated in the summer of 2021 as part of the prestigious Voci nei Chiostri Festival promoted by AERCO, of which Flos Musicae is a member.
In the summer of 2022, the ensemble toured Bergamo and its province for a series of concerts dedicated to the Italian choral repertoire between the 19th and 20th centuries (Verdi, Puccini, Mascagni, Perosi). In the same year, it presented two concerts entirely dedicated to Heinrich Schütz on the 350th anniversary of his death. The concerts, entitled "Unser Wandel ist im Himmel" - a message of hope for our time, saw the complete performance of the Musikalische Exequien, a milestone in 17th-century German music. In December 2023, the ensemble celebrated the 300th anniversary of J.S. Bach's entry into service at the Thomaskirche in Leipzig with a concert entirely dedicated to his Advent and Christmas cantatas.
In January 2025, the ensemble will perform the first modern performance of the Rouen Officium stellae (13th century). It will be accompanied by traditional pieces and instrumental compositions by K. Stockhausen.
Since 2018, Giorgio Musolesi has been conductor and artistic director of the vocal ensemble Flos Musicae. |
