Ensemble Inégal was founded in Prague in 2000 by the conductor and organist Adam Viktora together with the soprano Gabriela Eibenová. The core of the ensemble is formed of excellent Czech players and singers, all specialist interpreters of early music. Initial success and superb reviews (Fanfare, Concerto, Early Music Review) procured the ensemble’s first important performances at music festivals, such as the Prague Spring. The year 2005, with the world CD premiere of Jan Dismas Zelenka's (1679-1745) Oratorio Il Serpente di bronzo, determined Ensemble Inégal’s direction towards the work of this Baroque composer. The star of this man of genius has been rising steeply in the 21st century and the history of music is being re-written.
Ensemble Inégal is a versatile musical ensemble, whose interpretative range extends from Renaissance music to contemporary music. In addition to early music, the ensemble has also produced innovative performances and recordings of romantic music (e.g. A. Dvořák, G. Rossini) and modern music (Benjamin Britten, Arvo Pärt). The ensemble accepted numerous invitations to international European music festivals, including Prague Spring, Musica Antiqua Brugge, Oude Muziek Utrecht, Lufthansa Festival London, Aschaffenburger Bachtage, International Bach Chamber Music Festival and many others. The ensemble has already recorded 10 successful CD's, which have been awarded a number of important awards (Diapason d'or, IRR Outstanding, Goldberg 5 Stars, etc.), and regularly appears on Czech and foreign television and radio stations (BBC, European Broadcasting Union EBU, Czech Television, Czech Radio, Deutschlandradio Kultur, etc.).
Since 2007, Ensemble Inégal organizes its own annual concert series in Prague entitled: "Czech Musical Baroque - Discoveries and Surprises", in which it presents to its listeners newly discovered or rediscovered compositions by Czech Baroque composers and works preserved in Czech archives, with a special focus on the work of Jan Dismas Zelenka. The most important concert premieres have included performances of works by J.D. Zelenka, Antonio Vivaldi, H.I.F. Biber, S. Capricorn, Johann Caspar Ferdinand Fischer, J.J.I. Brentner and M. Vogt. Two new festival series were added from 2012: "Music Visions", presenting early and modern music in unusual contexts, and "Ensemble Inégal For Children": puppet shows with Baroque music and entertaining educational features. Ensemble Inégal aims and succeeds to collaborate with many excellent musicians: Terry Wey, Peter Kooij, Roberta Mameli, Carlos Mena, Hannes Rux, Florian Deuter, Jonathan Pešek, Jean Tubéry, Lisandro Abadie, Kai Wessel, Cyril Auvity, and Makoto Sakurada.
Ensemble Inégal, with its conductor Adam Viktora, has gained European renown thanks to its highly acclaimed concerts and CD recordings and has become synonymous with discoveries from the legacy of the brilliant Czech Baroque composer, Jan Dismas Zelenka. |
