The Austrian-born bass-baritone of Carinthian Slovene descent, Philipp Kranjc, completed his vocal studies at the University of Music and Performing Art Frankfurt am Main (Bachelor of Arts degree in Singing and Opera: 2011-2015) with Thomas Heyer. He earned his Master of Music degree in Lied and Oratorio with Bernd Valentin and Wolfgang Holzmair at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg (2016-2018), with an emphasis on Slovenian art songs. His outstanding work was recognized by the International Foundation Mozarteum Salzburg, who awarded him with the Lilli-Lehmann-Medal.
After three successful seasons as a member of the Operastudios NRW and at the Landestheater Linz (September 2018-July 2020), Philipp Kranjc then joined the ensemble at the Musiktheater im Revier Gelsenkirchen in 2021. Meanwhile, at this historically and culturally significant theater, he sang numerous roles in operas from George Frideric Handel to Paul Hindemith, J.S. Bach, Benjamin Britten, W.A. Mozart to Smetana and many more. His still very young career marks the collaboration with many significant conductors, such as George Petrou, Konrad Junghänel, Michi Gaigg, Rasmus Baumann, Leslie Suganandarajah, Markus Poschner as well as the orchestras of the Bruckner Orchester Linz, L'Orfeo Barockorchester, Neue Philharmonie Westfalen, Sinfonieorchester Wuppertal and Salzburger Orchester Solisten.
In addition to opera, Philipp Kranjc is an active and experienced Concert Singer and Recitalist. Numerous recitals and concerts lead him to the Festival Ljubljana, the Donaufestwochen, the Händelfestspiele Halle (June 2022), the Valetta Baroque Festival, St. John’s Smith Square London, Gasteig München, Hugo Wolf Haus Slovenj Gradec and the C. Bechstein Haus, Frankfurt am Main. He currently lives in n Gelsenkirchen, Germany. |
