The German baritone, Bernd Valentin, studied singing with Claudio Nicolai and Klesie Kelly in Cologne.
Engagements have taken Bernd Valentin from 1995 to 2006 to the Theaters in Kiel and Hagen, Staatsoper Hannover and Deutsche Oper Berlin. Since then he has been working as freelance. With guest appearances in Aachen, Bonn, Düsseldorf, Essen, Kaiserslautern and the Komische Oper Berlin, in Basel, Bern, Innsbruck and Volksoper Wien he expanded his large repertoire last to roles like Krenek's Jonny spielt auf, Tomskij in Tchaikovsky's Pique Dame, Sebastiano in d'Albert's Tiefland s, Förster in Janácek's The Cunning Little Vixenr, Jakobäus in Braunfels‘ Verkündigung and Wozzeck in Alban Berg's opera of the same.
Bernd Valentin has appeared in concerts at the Konzerthaus Berlin, Frauenkirche Dresden, LiederhalleStuttgart and the Philharmonie am Gasteig München; and was a guest at festivals in Stuttgart, Berlin, Eutin, Erl, Lucerne, Aspendos, Stockholm, Uppsala, El Paso, Gwang Ju and the Oregon Bach Festival. He sang contemporary oratorio by Sofia Gubaidulina, Rihm and Sandström under Helmuth Rilling and Ben-Haim's Joram with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra in Tel Aviv. At the Tiroler Landestheater he has appeared as Pelléas, Silvio in I Pagliacci, Chorèbe in Les Troyens, Mandryka in Arabella and as Falstaff and in 2012-2013 season as Gellner in La Wally and Zurga in Les perles de pêcheurs (The Pearl Fishers). In 2013-2014 season he embodied in the resumption of Georges Bizet's opera, as well as the Don Carlo in La forza del destinoy.
