Laura Alvini (Harpsichord)

Born: 1947 (?) - Italy
Died: January 15, 2005 - Rome, Italy

The Italian harpsichordist, Laura Alvini, studied piano and harpsichord at the Conservatory of Milan and later at the conservatories of Moscow and Paris.

Laura Alvini received enthusiastic appreciation for her historically authentic interpretations played on the original instruments. Her repertoire ranged from the earliest surviving keyboard works to piano works of the 19th century. In addition to her solo work, she appeared regularly in chamber groups with her own Galimathias Musicum and with Roberto Gini's Ensemble Concerto Gini (with which she performed, among other things, the integral concerti of Bach). With these ensembles she made numerous recordings of chamber music. As a soloist she recorded works of Girolamo Frescobaldi, Alessandro Scarlatti and Domenico Scarlatti, J.S. Bach, Georg Frideric Handel, Cherubini, Mozart, Robert Schumann, Felix Mendelssohn and Rossini. In 1995 and 1999, she won the Premio Internazionale del Disco Antonio Vivaldi of Fondazione Cini.

Laura Alvini taught the music of early instruments at the Conservatory of Verona, and later harpsichord, clavichord, and piano, as well as the interpretation of basso continuo at the Civica Scuola of Milan. She also held many seminars and course, among which a seminar dedicated to piano sonatas of Mozart at the Accademia Internazionale Pianistica di Imola. She died in Rome, at the early age of 58, after a short illness.
