The chamber choir Camerata vocalis of Tübingen University (= CVTU) concentrates mainly on a wide range of a cappella repertoire. With its numerous concert tours within and outside Europe as well as CD recordings, radio and TV productions Camerata vocalis has acted as a musical ambassador for Tübingen and its university.
In recent years, the ensemble has toured to China in September 2001, and in April 2002 the choir participated in the International Festival of University Choirs "Universitas Cantat" in Poland. For the occasion of the University's 525th birthday, the choir (in collaboration with SWR radio) produced the CD "Helfen zu graben den Brunnen des Lebens" and also performed at the main celebration, which was attended by Bundespräsident Johannes Rau.
In May 2003 the choir went on a concert tour to Groningen in the Netherlands. In July, at the 40th International Competition for Choirs 2003 in Spittal an der Drau (Austria), Camerata vocalis won 3rd prize in the "Kunstlied" category. In October 2003 the choir went on tour to Morocco and in autumn 2004 they visited Poland.
Another overseas tour led the choir to Brazil in spring 2005. In the year 2006 this prestigious choir recorded the CD "Engelsgesänge" (Songs of Angels) and gave a highly acclaimed performance of J.S. Bach's Mass in B minor (BWV 232) in December. In 2007 the ensemble travelled to Belgium. This February 2008, the Camerata vocalis followed an invitation to the USA and Canada.
From 1999 to 2010 the CVTU was led by Tobias Hiller. The new conductor of CVTU is Philipp Amelung (in office since April 1, 2011).
