Andrea Cantù (Piano)

Born: August 6, ____ - Italy

The Italian pianist, Andrea Cantù, began studying the piano at an early age and graduated with honors from the G. Verdi Conservatory in Como under the guidance of Maestro Patuzzi (Class of 2013). He continued his studies at at the École Normale de Musique A. Cortot in Paris with M ° Blacher and privately (one of the very last personal students) with Aldo Ciccolini and deepened the late Baroque repertoire with M ° Emilia Fadini. He won the absolute first prize at the Concorso Internazionale di Caraglio (where he also won an annual specialization course with Maestro Roberto Plano), second prize at the Concorso Nazionale di Giussano and the Concorso Internazionale Monterosa Kawai. He won the Concorso Giubilei, in which he was also awarded a scholarship for the master-class of M ° Perticaroli at the Mozarteum in Salzburg. He attended the master-class of Boris Petrushansky at the Imola Summer Piano Academy. In December 2016 he won the competition to join the Guildhall School of Music & Drama in London, where he earned the Artist Master under the guidance of Ronan O'Hora and Caroline Palmer.

Andrea Cantù is considered a young star of Italian pianism. The famous Aldo Ciccolini wrote about him: “His musical sensitivity moves me”. His interpretations combine transcendental technical virtuosity with an emotional charge and introspection, according to many as surprising. He has performed in various places, including at the Mozarteum in Salzburg; at Salle Cortot in Paris; at Museum of Musical Instruments and headquarters of MG Concerts in Brussels; at Royal Albert Hall, Sherriff Center and Milton Court in London; at Arrigo Cappelletti Festival in Como; at Chopin Festival; at Liszt Festival, at the Carducci Theater; at Villa Monastero in Varenna, at Villa Erba for the Cernobbio Festival in front of over two thousand people; at Villa Gomes in Lecco; at Casa dell'Economia Auditorium, at Sala Ticozzi; at Villa Carcano n Mandello del Lario; at Auditorium S. Antonio in Morbegno; at in the Sala dei Teatini in Piacenza; at Amici della Scala, Palazzo Cusani, Villa Simonetta, the philological circle in Milan; at Teatro Scientifico Bibiena in Mantova; at Teatro Sociale in Stradella; at Accademia Tadini in Lovere; at Rocca in Riva del Garda; at Chiesa di Santa Chiara in Sansepolcro; at Pavia nella Basilica in San Michele; at Duomo and Collegio Borromeo; at the Piazza di Sansepolcro on the occasion of the inauguration of the Steinway piano usually played by Puccini; at all’Accademia internazionale di Villa Bossi; Teatro di Casalmaggiore, at Villa Borletti in Origgio (Varese). He was the soul, creator and Artistic Director of the Festival Musicale Internazionale Rotaractiano “Musicisti del mondo per il centro Italia” (Musicians of the world for central Italy).

Andrea Cantù recorded Bach's Goldberg Variations live for the Halidon record label, with which he signed a contract for the recording of many other music. He collects historical pianos and fortepianos (he has fifteen grand and one table) and studies their history and evolution. He uses them to rediscover the sonic universe of composers of the past, who wrote music for and on those instruments. He collaborates with established musicians from all over the world. He is working on the enhancement and rediscovery of the Brazilian composer Antonio Carlos Gomes. He composes piano music and writes poetry.
