Hans Gillesberger (Choral Conductor)

Born: November 29, 1929 - Ebensee, (Upper) Austria
Died: March 4, 1986 - Vienna, Austria

The Austrian choral conductor Hans Gillesberger studied jurisprudence as well as church music in Innsbruck and Vienna.

From 1942 to 1945 he was kapellmeister of the Wiener Sängerknaben (Vienna Boys’Choir). In 1945 he became deputy director of choir of the Wiener Staatsoper (Vienna State Opera). From 1961 he was also professor at the Vienna Academy for Music. From 1965 he was artistic director of the Wiener Sängerknaben. Hans Gillesberger was one of the most renowned chorus-masters of the post-war era.
