Jacob Gramit (Baritone)

Born: Edmonton, Alberta, Canada

The Canadian baritone, Jacob Gramit, obtained his Bachelor of Music degree from The University of British Columbia (UBC) (2008-2012); and his Master’s Degree in Early Music - Singing from the Koninklijk Conservatorium (Royal Conservatory) in The Hague, Netherlands (2015-2018). While in the Netherlands, he studied with Pascal Bertin, Peter Kooy, Michael Chance, Dorothee Mields, Robin Blaze, and Lenie van den Heuvel.

Highlights of Jacob Gramit's time abroad included projects with Charles Toet, Mike Fentross, Kathryn Cok, a tour of J.S. Bach’s Mass in B minor (BWV 232) (with performances in America and the Netherlands) under Ton Koopman, and both preparing the edition and performing in Michael Chance's production of Cavalli’s Giasone. After graduating from the UBC, he sang for three seasons with professional vocal ensemble Musica Intima (of which he since September 2018 the General Manager), as well singing with the Christ Church Cathedral Choir (where he is currently the Artistic Director of the Summer Festival of Sacred Music). Committed to the growth of the Early Music community in the Pacific Northwest, he has performed as a soloist with the Baroque Orchestra Mentorship Program at UBC under Alexander Weimann, both in concerts at UBC and presented by Early Music Vancouver. As a chorister, he has performed under Alexander Weimann on several occasions, both in Canada with the Pacific Baroque Orchestra, and abroad with Cappella Amsterdam (Director: Daniel Reuss) and Holland Baroque, and was selected to participate in a performance of Spem in alium with The Tallis Scholars (Director: Peter Phillips, presented by Carnegie Hall. He is currently living in Vancouver, Canada and is a member of Vancouver Chamber Choir.
