|
The English counter-tenor, Michael Chance, was a choral scholar at King's College, Cambridge, where he read English. He has subsequently developed a career which spans opera, oratorio, recitals and recordings and he is now regarded as one of the world's leading and most-sought-after counter-tenors.
Michael Chance’s stage roles have included Andronico (Tamerlano) with Lyon Opera; Ptolomeo (Giulio Cesare) at the Paris Opera; Cavalli's Giasone for the Innsbruck Festival; Oberon (A Midsummer Night's Dream) for the Glyndebourne Festival; Ottone (Agrippina) , Ottone (The Coronation of Poppea), Military Governor (Judith Weir's A Night at the Chinese Opera) at Kent Opera; Apollo (Death in Venice) for Glyndebourne Touring Opera, Covent Garden, and the 1992 Glyndebourne Festival; Monteverdi's Il Ritorno d'Ulisse with the Netherlands Opera and the English National Opera and Rinaldo in Lisbon with Teresa Berganza. His television appearances have included A Night at the Chinese Opera and Death in Venice.
Michael Chance's concert performances have taken him all over the world: from New York's Lincoln Center, to the leading venues throughout Western Europe, to Moscow, Budapest, East Berlin and Japan. Among the conductors with whom he performs regularly are Frans Brüggen, John Eliot Gardiner, Franz Welser-Möst, Gustav Leonhardt, Jane Glover, Trevor Pinnock and Nicholas Kraemer.
