La Grande Écurie et la Chambre du Roy (Instrumental Ensemble)

Founded: 1966 - France

La Grande Écurie et la Chambre du Roy is a French instrumental ensemble. The ensemble was founded in 1966 by Jean-Claude Malgoire, and explores a vast repertoire of the 17th century to contemporary. The ensemble has rediscovered and performed particularly Baroque music and W.A. Mozart. Their recordings of the trilogy Mozart / Da Ponte (The Marriage of Figaro, Don Giovanni, Così fan tutte) have become a reference. In addition known works as Idomeneo by W.A. Mozart and Il Barbiere di Siviglia by Rossini, the ensemble has performed scores of forgotten works, like those of Idoménée by Campra or Barbier de Séville by Paisiello.

Honors include: Victoire de la musique classique 1992 for classical music recording of Antonio Vivaldi's Montezuma; Prix de l'Académie du disque lyrique for recording of Vêpres pour la Nativité de la Vierge by A. Vivaldi.
