Heinrich-Schütz-Ensemble München (Choir)

Founded: 1977 - Munich, Germany

The German choir Das Heinrich-Schütz-Ensemble München (= HSEM) concerned itself intensively since its establishment in 1977 with choir music of the 17th and 18th centuries. The size of the choir is limited due to performance-practice conditions to maximally 45 singers. The members are choir-experienced amteurs, music students and music scientists, who enjoyed thorough without exception musical training, so that the conditions for a fastidious conversion of the historical requirement for performance are given. The choir belongs to the most prominent ensembles for Baroque music in Southern Germany.

In the time of its existence the HSEM has performed together with Monteverdi-Orchester München all the large oratorio works of J.S. Bach, and also has specialized in performing the music of Heinrich Schütz. Their work is documnted in numerous broadcast recordings, since 1995 regularly in the context of the concert series Bach Kantate Aktuell. In November 1994 appeared the CD Weihnachtshistorie (CALIG/Weltbild) and sacred concerts from Symphoniae Sacrae III of Heinrich Schütz; in September 1996 CD with Bach Cantatas for Advent and Christmas. Together with Monteverdi-Orchester München HSEM undertook numerous concert tours, among other things to Italy, in the former East Germany and the former Soviet Union.
