Bethany Horak-Hallett (Mezzo-soprano)

Born: Hertford, Hertfordshire, England

The British mezzo-soprano, Bethany Horak-Hallett, read Music at Leeds University gaining a Masters in Music Performance. She completed her training at Trinity Laban Conservatoire. She is a Rising Star of the Enlightenment and a Samling Artist. She was a finalist in the 2020 Cesti Competition at the Innsbruck Festival of Early Music and won Second Prize in the 2021 International Handel Singing Competition.

Bethany Horak-Hallett's opera engagements have included Dorabella in W.A. Mozart's Così fan Tutte for Garsington Opera, Kitchen Boy in Rusalka for Glyndebourne Festival Opera and the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin/ Robin Ticciati as well as Žena in Katya Kabanova at Glyndebourne.

On the concert platform Bethany Horak-Hallett has appeared with the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment singing J.S. Bach Cantatas and Galatea in George Frideric Handel's Aci, Galatea e Polifemo directed by Steven Devine; J.S. Bach's Johannes-Passion BWV 245 with Mark Padmore and Haydn's Nelson Mass with John Butt. She joined the Royal Northern Sinfonia / Dinis Sousa as soloist for J.S. Bach's Cantata BWV 199 and made her BBC Proms début with the Monteverdi Choir / Sir John Eliot Gardiner singing G.F. Handel's Dixit Dominus (broadcast on BBC TV and Radio), toured with Holland Baroque, sang J.S. Bach and G.F. Handel with the Academy of Ancient Music, G.F. Handel and W.A. Mozart arias with Southbank Sinfonia Baroque / Adrian Butterfield and has appeared with the English Chamber Orchestra / James Sherlock and The Instruments of Time and Truth / Christopher Buckland. She has given recitals at the London Handel Festival and for Garsington Opera. Amongst Bethany’s films and recordings are Cupid in John Eccles' Semele with the Academy of Ancient Music / Julian Perkins, J.S. Bach and Georg Philipp Telemann for OAEPlayer and G.F. Handel's Messiah for the Voces8 Foundation Live from London festival.

Her recent and future engagements include J.S. Bach's Mass in B minor BWV 232 with The Monteverdi Choir / Sir John Eliot Gardiner, Lady Psyche Princess Ida with the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment and John Wilson; roles in Iolanta and Will Todd Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland for IF Opera, G.F. Handel and W.A. Mozart Arias at the Anghiari Festival, L.v. Beethoven's Missa Solemnis with the Huddersfield Choral Society and G.F. Handel's Messiah with The Dunedin Consort / John Butt.
